About Chinese...

Spoken Chinese is a tonal language related to Tibetan and Burmese, however it is inherently unrelated to other neighboring languages, such as Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, and Japanese. However, these cultures where these languages are spoken were strongly influenced by the Chinese language throughout the course of history. Korean and Japanese both have writing systems using Chinese characters, which are called Hanja and Kanji, respectively.

In North Korea, Hanja has been entirely discontinued and Hangul is the only way to express their language. In South Korea, Hanja is used as a form of bold face typeset. Vietnamese also contains many words borrowed from the Chinese language and once used Chinese language characters.
